Level of studies: B.Sc. (undergraduate) Academic Studies – Mechanical Engineering
ECTS: 6
Final exam type: written
Department: Department of General Machine Design
What is general in the entire construction activity is separated into the course of Machine design. It is studied from the theoretical and practical side, which provides basic principles, methods and skills and thus develops systematic and creative abilities in students. The material from this course serves further for construction activities specific to each module.
At the end of the successfully completed course, the student will be able to: 1. Analyzes the stages of the designing process, 2. Explain the designing procedure of standardized and unified parts, 3. Solves tolerance chains using the procedure of absolute substitutability, 4. Design machine parts and assemblies from the aspect of load capacity-strength, 5. Design machine parts and assemblies from the aspect of minimum mass, 6. Design machine parts and assemblies from the aspect of the manufacturing process.
Introduction to designing process with the necessary conditions: functions and purposes, working capacity, productivity, economy, ecology, aesthetics, recycling. Methods of standardization, unification and typification during designing process. Tolerances and tolerance chains in designing process. Methods of calculating strength, deformations, stiffness, safety factors and reliability, increasing load capacity by applying the concept of permissible local plastic deformations. Study of material fatigue of parts and structures at constant and stepwise variable stress amplitudes and elasto-plastic deformations. Defining the longitudinal and cros-sectional shape of machine parts. More rational use of material load capacity in order to save material and obtain lightweight constructions.
Typification and tolerance chains with instructions for the project. Calculation of statically loaded parts. Calculation of machine elements with local plastic deformations with uneven load distribution in the cross-section. Stress and deformation concentration, calculation concepts for nominal and real stresses at the base of the notch. Instructions for the project. Low-cycle and high-cycle fatigue at constant amplitudes and hypotheses on the accumulation of fatigue damage at variable amplitudes - operational life. Lightweight constructions. Examples of form technology by type and manufacturing method of parts.
